Course Overview

This is a Basic Dermal Filler course with a focus on the lower face designed to cover volume loss, tissue descent, and hollowing of the aging face. Fillers are more complicated than neurotoxins and this is the perfect place to start.

This is a detailed examination of HA fillers as well as a discussion on why beginning injectors should only inject HA fillers and stay away from non-HA fillers. Covering 174 slides, this course explains the definitions of aging and beauty scales and all the popular HA fillers, flow properties, products by Galderma, Allergan, Merz and Prolleneum. Needles vs cannulas and injection techniques are covered in detail. The five applications covered are Marionette Lines, Nasal Labial Folds, Perioral, Mental Crease and Lip Augmentation.   • Describe the process of mixing dermal fillers with lidocaine prior to injecting.
  • Explore individual variations and gender differences as they apply to injections of dermal fillers.
  • Examine patients for appropriate use of dermal fillers by reviewing their physical history, goals & expectations, and potential challenges.
  • Describe the written informed consent process for treatment and verbal post treatment instructions to patients.
  • Review the most commonly used fillers in the United States, and determine which filler is best suited for certain areas of the face.
  • Summarize for patients the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the facial musculature, as well as underlying vessels for basic filler injections.
  • Describe the injection techniques for common patient concerns of nasolabial folds, marionette lines, downturned mouth, mental crease, perioral lines, and introduction to lip augmentation.
  • Explain the etiology and management of complications of dermal filler injections and how to avoid undesired or adverse outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is a comprehensive introduction to cosmetic injections with dermal fillers to the lower face and is intended for providers to include nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians involved in the care of patients desiring aesthetic augmentation.
